Star Gophers sophomore Koi Perich was among the four athletes who showcased the team at Big Ten Media Days in Las Vegas this year. He has consistently been proud of representing Esko, Minnesota, and he expressed that again on Wednesday.
He was questioned by Big Ten Network studio host Dave Revsine about what he would do if he were visiting the Northern Minnesota town with a population of just over 2,000, and Perich provided a very straightforward response.
Not much… We have one traffic light. Stop at the school… We have a field,” he said. “We now have TequillaTown, I think that’s what it’s called. It’s our store… It’s a Mexican restaurant. I’ve never been there; it’s newer.

Esko High School graduated 104 students in 2024 when Perich received his diploma. He has since brought attention to the small town, becoming one of the most promising young athletes in the Big Ten, no matter the sport.
I believe you should be proud of your origins, regardless of your path,” Perich added. “I have a deep affection for Minnesota, and Esko plays a significant role in my life.
Perich is anticipated to take on a more prominent offensive role this season as a wide receiver and wildcat quarterback, in addition to his responsibilities as a safety, punt returner, and kick returner. He became a well-known figure in Minnesota in 2024, and now he has a chance to become a nationally recognized name in 2025 while continuing to represent Esko.
