A school in Kisumu County is facing financial challenges even though the Ministry of Education has allocated billions in capitation funds.
NTV stated that Ng’op Ngeso Secondary School was allocated approximately KSh 4,000 solely by the government as its financial support for the second term of this year’s academic schedule.
The Ministry of Education allocated Ksh22,028,911,191 to finance Term 2 for pupils attending all public primary and secondary schools.
On Tuesday, May 20, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba released a statement outlining the allocations, indicating that Ksh1,370,196,684.55 has been designated for Free Primary Education.
The funding for Free Day Junior School education will be Ksh8,900,424,491.35, whereas Free Day Junior School (Special Needs Education) will receive Ksh118,417,921.35.
In addition, Free Day Secondary Education has received KSh 11,639,872,094.40. Cabinet Secretary Ogamba stressed that this funding will assist schools in managing their operations efficiently throughout the second term.
“The disbursement of capitation funds will ensure the smooth operation of school activities during the upcoming term. The government reaffirms its dedication to fulfill its responsibility towards students and educational institutions, consistent with Article 53(1)(b) of the Constitution, which guarantees every child free and mandatory primary education,” Ogamba declared.
The Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, directed school administrators and principals to handle the provided funds with responsibility and avoid charging unauthorized fees.
He warned that any administrator found misusing funds or imposing additional charges on parents would be subject to severe measures from the ministry.
