Former BJP MP Faces Notice for Unpaid Dues at Government-Allotted Residence
Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, Kirron Kher, has received a notice demanding payment of Rs 12.76 lakh in unpaid dues related to a government-allotted residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 7. This information was confirmed by officials on Wednesday. The notice, issued by the Chandigarh Assistant Controller (Finance and Controller) Rents office, pertains to the T-6/23 house that Kher occupied during her tenure as a Member of Parliament.
Kher represented the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat in both 2014 and 2019. According to the notice, she is being charged for unpaid licence fees from July 2023 to October 5, 2024, which amounts to Rs 5,725. Additionally, a 100% penalty for unauthorised occupation from October 6, 2024, to January 5, 2025, added Rs 3.64 lakh. From January 6 to April 12, 2025, a 200% penalty increased the total by another Rs 8.20 lakh.
In addition to these penalties, interest and other charges have been added to the amount. These include Rs 26,106 in annual interest and Rs 59,680 in miscellaneous dues. As a result, the total payable amount now stands at Rs 12.76 lakh. Kher has been urged to clear the dues promptly through bank transfer or demand draft to avoid further interest accrual.
A Rare Public Appearance Amid Health Concerns
Amid this financial matter, Kirron Kher made a rare public appearance alongside her husband, Anupam Kher, at the premiere of “Tanvi The Great” in Mumbai last week. Their joint appearance drew attention, with fans expressing joy at seeing them together. However, many also voiced concerns about Kirron’s health.
In 2021, Anupam Kher disclosed that Kirron had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. Since then, Kirron has largely stayed out of the public eye. At the premiere, she was seen accompanied by Anupam and their son, Sikandar. Social media videos showed Kirron walking while holding Anupam’s hand, with him gently guiding and assisting her.
For the event, Kirron wore a red embroidered ethnic outfit paired with statement earrings and a silver handbag. Anupam, on the other hand, opted for a classic charcoal tuxedo with a black shirt and bow tie. Their presence at the premiere highlighted their strong bond and continued support for each other, even amid personal challenges.
