Kelly Clarkson’s New Las Vegas Residency Kicks Off with a Strong Performance
Kelly Clarkson recently launched her new Las Vegas residency, “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions,” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Friday night, July 11. This event marked the debut of her latest show, which had been originally scheduled for the previous week but was postponed due to rehearsals that took a toll on her voice. Despite the delay, fans were thrilled as Clarkson delivered on her promise to bring “the studio to the stage” for this unique residency.
The stage setup was designed to give the audience an immersive experience, making them feel like they were inside a recording session with Clarkson. This approach offered a fresh and intimate way for fans to connect with her music, showcasing her versatility and creativity.
This is not the first time Clarkson has taken the stage in Las Vegas. She previously attempted a residency called “Invincible” in 2020, which was canceled due to the pandemic. However, she made her mark in 2023 with the sold-out “Chemistry” engagement at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The show started on July 28, 2023, and was initially planned for 10 dates. It quickly expanded to 14 dates, including performances over the New Year’s Eve holiday and the 2024 Super Bowl.
Clarkson has always viewed Las Vegas as a significant opportunity for her career. In 2020, she expressed her excitement about the city, stating that it allows her to do things she couldn’t on the road. She emphasized the benefits of staying in one place for a while, connecting with fans, and avoiding the exhaustion of traveling every night. For her, Las Vegas offers a home away from home.
Recently, Clarkson teased fans with a glamorous look in Sin City, wearing a plunging sequin jumpsuit accented with feathers for the “Where Have You Been” video. This style echoed the iconic look of fellow Las Vegas headliner Cher. Clarkson has always loved performing in Las Vegas and the high energy of its crowds. She mentioned that the city has become a hub for artists from all genres, and she is excited to create her own residency.
There are currently 16 performances of “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions” scheduled through November 15, with more dates for the postponed July 4-5 shows yet to be announced. Over the past 23 years since winning American Idol, Clarkson has sold over 25 million albums and 40 million singles worldwide. In addition to three Grammy Awards, she has multiple Emmys for her six-season Kelly Clarkson Show.
One of the highlights of Friday night’s debut was during the second-to-last song of the night, when Clarkson introduced a rotating Kellyoke cover. Named after the popular performance segment from her daytime talk show, this time she performed the Dolly Parton-penned “I Will Always Love You” in the style of Whitney Houston’s 1992 The Bodyguard soundtrack version.
