Katherine Ryan Expresses Disappointment Over Potential Newborn Boy
Katherine Ryan, the 42-year-old comedian known for her role on 8 Out of 10 Cats, has shared her feelings about the possibility of her next child being a boy. The mother of three recently announced her pregnancy and confirmed she has successfully passed her first trimester. However, she admitted to feeling “dejected” at the thought of having another son.
Ryan expressed her sentiments during an appearance on Heart Breakfast on Monday, July 21. She emphasized that she loves the surprise of not knowing the baby’s gender. “It’s always a surprise and I love that, it’s vintage,” she said. While she is generally happy post-first trimester, she feels a sense of disappointment if the baby turns out to be male. “Men have just antagonized me all my life, even before they’re born,” she added.
Ryan currently has a 16-year-old daughter from a previous relationship and two children with her partner, Bobby Kootstra: a four-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter. She mentioned that this time, if the baby is a boy, she will have to deal with the situation differently. Her son, who is four years old, has been described as a “toxic male.”
“He always wants to fight me,” Ryan said. “I drove him to nursery the other day, and he sat behind me with a sword held to my throat for a while. Like, who’s giving you weapons? I didn’t grow up with brothers, so it’s been an adjustment for me. But I love him, he’s a very special guy.”
The comedian has been open about her struggles with fertility in the past. She revealed that the couple experienced a miscarriage last year. “We lost another pregnancy in September at the beginning of the tour, which was fine, and then it was difficult, and then it became fine again,” she shared on the Telling Everybody Everything podcast.
Despite the challenges, Ryan now feels at peace with the situation. “I’m totally fine about it now. And not to be shrewd, but I looked in the calendar and I thought, oh, we would be due to have that baby in March, and I thought, that’s fine, I can do the Irish dates of my tour and land and I have a few specific dates off. I can make sure I have the baby on this specific day and then do the London dates of the Palladium with a small baby.”
Ryan’s honesty about her experiences highlights the complexities of parenthood and the emotional journey that comes with it. Her candidness resonates with many, offering a glimpse into the personal and public challenges faced by parents navigating the world of raising children. As she prepares for the arrival of her next child, her reflections provide a thoughtful perspective on gender, family dynamics, and personal growth.
