A 18-year-old from Kansas is working to assist the residents of Kerr County following the severe floods. In addition to helping, Sammie Magee is also paying tribute to the victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde.
Magee established the non-profit organizationSammie’s Toy DriveShe launched the organization just after the May 2022 school shooting, which resulted in 19 students and two teachers losing their lives. From that point on, she has dedicated herself to helping children impacted by such tragedies, one toy at a time.
“We strive to pay tribute to the 21, one toy at a time, while also fostering community bonds across state boundaries,” she said.
Magee is currently seeking donations and will ultimately gather toys for children in Kerr County who have been affected by the recent floods. Thus far, she hasgenerated over $800 in Amazon gift cardsand is aiming to achieve $1,000.
I simply wish to assist them with whatever needs they have, and also provide the children with toys,” Magee stated. “Focusing particularly on the essentials as they rebuild their lives.
She mentioned that her motivation for helping children is providing them with the room to recover.
Children who experience something like this are dealt with in a very clinical manner,” Magee stated. “They are just kids. They don’t comprehend what’s happening. They’ve been thrust into this terrible scenario. Therefore, ensuring they have a place to recover is crucial.
Magee intends to go to Kerr County in November as part of her yearly toy collection initiative in Uvalde. Until that time, she will keep working on gathering money and attention from her residence in Kansas.
