Hohoe (VR), June 4, GNA-Professor Frank Baiden, the Dean of Fred Newton Binka School of Public Health of the University of Health, and Allied Science (UHAS-FNBSPH) at Hohoe, has urged the media to champion and serve as ambassadors to educate the public on nutrition and healthy living.
He said that awareness creation about what and when to eat, and nutritional values of foods as well as regularly exercise would help eradicate hypertension, obesity, and stunning.

Professor Baiden, who is also the Principal Investigator of UHAS-FNBSHP- ‘NKAMBO’ Mastercard Project, during a capacity building workshop for Journalist in Oti and Volta on Nutrition and Sustainable Agri-Food System Project at Hohoe S5 Hotel, said the workshop was to address areas of agribusiness, entrepreneurship among others in the regions and beyond.
“About 40 per cent of Ghanaian populace are living with hypertension and the most interesting part of the situation is the victims themselves are unaware, and we need to fight it before it escalates,” he said.
He explained that it was a 10-year transformative project championed by UHAS-FNBSHP NKAMBO and the initiatives were to address the numerous challenges within the agri-food and nutritional system to create sustainable jobs for about three million Ghanaian through entrepreneurship and innovative means by 2030.
He said that the dream of the institution was to have a sustainable funding for programmes over a long-enough time to mark a significant watershed in the 12 years history of the school and charged journalists to take the challenge and create public awareness through various means about their projects.
“NKAMBO literally means Togetherness, our leaders draw our attention to the force of togetherness when they point us to what is possible to do with broom rather to what is possible with a broomstick.”
Professor Baiden appealed to journalist to help inculcate the knowledge acquired from the 2-day training into the stakeholders, associations, farmers and others to help create deeper awareness, education adding that,” we need to eradicate all forms of non-communicable diseases, all must check their BP at least once in eight weeks to promote healthy life.”
He said that other objectives of the university were to address the problem of graduate unemployment, but FNBSPH faced other hindering challenges which include inadequate classroom facilities to accommodate the considerable number of students for effective teaching and learning.
He noted that the school with the partnership and support by the NKABOM projects would make variations in portfolio of courses that are expected to lay emphasis on nutrition and how it would be delivered through the mainstreaming entrepreneurship across all new and existing programmes for the benefit of the students.
Professor Baiden also urged journalist to use their pens, voices, and videos to appealed and bring to the attention of stakeholders, philanthropists, corporate organisations and the government to help complete the abandoned uncompleted classroom structures at the permanent site at Fodome in the Hohoe Municipality.
Other facilitators of the workshop which include Professor Francis Zotor of FNBSPH-Hohoe, Ms Roseline Ashigbui, CEO Delchris products, Mr. Glover Nutifafa, Nutrition Surveillance Officer, Mr. Selorm Odjoh-Anyomi, CEO Edem Dew Farms, Dr. Charity Binka, CEO WOMEC, and others.
Journalists were taken through various learning activities which include entrepreneurship and innovations, climate smart agriculture, agriculture, Nutrition and Health linkages, Demystifying agri- business, nutrition issues and interventions by the Ghana Health Service.
Some other journalists GNA interacted with expressed satisfaction about the workshop and pledged to serve as ambassadors to educate the public on Nutrition and related issues.
