Jospong Group Partners with Kinshasa to Transform Waste Management

Accra, June 2, GNA – Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, has emphasised the need for Africa to take control of its economy and work collectively to transform the continent.

Dr. Agyepong highlighted the importance of African governments through concerted policy interventions to support indigenous African companies to drive economic growth and development across the continent.

The Jospong Group Executive Chairman told newsmen after the signing of a major Memorandum of Understanding with the Kinshasa City Government in a move to tackle waste management challenges and offer integrated waste solution in the city of Kinshasa.

The agreement outlines the terms under which both parties will collaborate on a project focused on the collection, transportation, recovery, and conversion of municipal and other forms of waste into valuable products.

The Provincial Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development for the Province of Kinshasa, Léon Mulumba Mwana Nshiya, signed the MoU on behalf of the City of Kinshasa, while Mrs Florence Yawa Abbah initialled on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies.

The event was witnessed by the Governor of Kinshasa Province, Daniel Bumba Lubaki, alongside executives from the Governor’s office, the Provincial Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, and the Jospong team.

Dr Agyepong said global economic development demanded that Africa took a proactive approach to its economic transformation.

“We must support our indigenous companies to lead the charge in the renaissance of our continent,” he said. “By doing so, we can create a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come,” he stated.

Dr Agyepong stressed that as a leader in waste management, the Jospong Group is providing innovative solutions to create a healthy environment for all and emphasised that waste management is a critical component of economic development and that the Jospong Group’s efforts are aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental protection.

He said the Jospong Group’s commitment to waste management was not only about providing an essential service, but also about contributing to the transformation of Africa’s economy.

The Jospong Group Executive Chairman said by creating jobs, generating revenue, and promoting sustainable development, the company was playing a vital role in shaping the continent’s economic future.

The Jospong Group’s commitment to waste management and economic development was a testament to the company’s vision for a brighter future for Africa, he said.

Dr Agyepong stressed, “By working together, Africans can create a prosperous and sustainable future for themselves and for generations to come.”

The Governor of Kinshasa Province, Daniel Bumba Lubaki, emphasised the continental importance of the project, stating, “I strongly believe this project will not only improve the environmental well-being of Kinshasa, but also stand as a model to project the name of Africa on the global map.”

He described the MoU as a significant step forward in addressing Kinshasa’s sanitation needs while promoting sustainable waste management and recovery.

The Governor said the inclusion of biochar production demonstrated a commitment to environmentally responsible waste reuse, with benefits spanning agriculture, carbon reduction, and urban renewal.

“This strategic partnership aims to provide innovative and integrated waste management solutions to the city, promoting sustainable waste management and recovery,” he stated.

In his remarks, Léon Mulumba Mwana Nshiya stated, “This agreement is a symbol of our strong will and unwavering commitment to build a cleaner, greener Kinshasa. It is the beginning of a new era for sustainable urban sanitation in our city.”

Mr Daniel Amuyaw Addo, who was part of the Jospong Group delegation expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stressing, “His signing ceremony reaffirms Jospong’s dedication to providing innovative and integrated waste management solutions to Kinshasa.

“We are grateful to all stakeholders who contributed to defining the scope of this strategic partnership.”

On behalf of the Jospong Group, Mr Addo presented a token of appreciation to the Governor of Kinshasa, as a gesture of goodwill.
