Johnny Depp’s New Life in the Sussex Countryside
Johnny Depp has reportedly relocated to a house in the picturesque countryside of Sussex, UK. This marks a significant change from his previous residence in a Soho townhouse in London. The move is said to be motivated by a desire for peace, privacy, and security. Interestingly, this decision echoes the lifestyle of his late friend, guitarist Jeff Beck, who lived in a 16th-century home in the same area.
A Significant Move to a Larger Home
According to reports, Depp recently purchased a large property in the Sussex countryside, close to the border with Kent. While specific details about the house remain limited, it is believed to be much larger than the London townhouse he previously occupied. The reasons behind the move are said to include a need for tranquility and a more secure environment. It’s also possible that the relocation was an homage to Jeff Beck, whose Renaissance-style home was located in the same region.
During the pandemic, Depp lived at the property with Beck, who once described it as “beautiful and wet.” After Beck’s passing due to bacterial meningitis, Depp returned to the estate in 2023. He and Beck’s widow, Sandra, arranged a “green burial” for the legendary musician on the grounds of the estate.
Feeling at Home in Sussex
Friends of Depp claim that he feels right at home in the Sussex countryside. Part of the appeal may be the presence of key members of his inner circle, including Stephen Deuters, CEO of his UK production company, who also resides in the area. Depp has been seen settling into local life, frequenting places like The Middle House pub and hotel in Mayfield, East Sussex. He has also visited the Folly Wildlife Rescue center, where he was photographed gently cradling an orphaned badger named Freddie Mercury.
Depp’s new residence has been confirmed through recent sightings, such as when he was reportedly driven from the home to the premiere of his new film, “Modigliani: Three Days on the Wing of Madness.”
Arriving in Style for the Film Premiere
For the London premiere of his film “Modi,” Depp made a striking appearance in oversized, all-black tailored pants and jackets. He paired the outfit with a stylish scarf around his neck and colored sunglasses that partially obscured his eyes. Depp also wore his signature metal jewelry, adding to the distinctive look.
“Modi” is a film that Depp directed, with the titular role played by Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio. Veteran actor Al Pacino also stars in the movie as art collector Maurice Gangnat. Speaking about his second directing effort, Depp expressed his honor at being involved in the project. He described the story of Modigliani as one of hardship and eventual triumph, a universally human tale that viewers can relate to.
Opening Up About Childhood Trauma
Earlier in the month, Depp shared insights into his traumatic childhood, particularly the physical abuse he endured at the hands of his late mother, Betty Sue Palmer. He recounted how she used various objects to beat him, including a f-ck stick, a f-ck shoe, an ashtray, and a phone. Despite the pain, he acknowledged the impact of her actions.
Depp revealed that while the physical abuse was severe, the psychological abuse he experienced was even more damaging. He emphasized that the emotional turmoil left deeper scars than the physical beatings. According to Depp, the verbal abuse and psychological mistreatment were harder to cope with, as they affected him on a more profound level.
