Juliette Binoche led the jury alongside Halle Berry from “The Crown,” as well as Payal Kapadian, Hong Sang-soo, Alba Rohrwacher, Leila Slimani, Dieudo Hamadi, and Carlos Reygadas who also participated.
Meanwhile, the jury presented the Palme d’Or award to Jafar Panahi’s film It Was Just an Accident. During a press briefing, the chairperson elaborated on this choice: “The movie is deeply human yet highly political as well since it originates from a nation with complex geopolitical circumstances.”
She went on, “While watching the movie, it truly made an impact. It stems from a sense of resistance and survival, themes that remain crucial nowadays. Therefore, we felt it was essential to present this film with our highest honor.”
“Art will inevitably triumph. Similarly, what defines humanity will also prevail. Our drive for creativity has the power to reshape the world,” Juliette concluded.
