Eight years ago, Jason Statham and Kurt Russell starred in the eighth installment in an action movie franchise that would go on to span two decades (and counting). Led by Vin Diesel, the eighth
Fast & Furious
film,
The Fate of the Furious,
was also the first film in the franchise without the late Paul Walker.
Now, almost a decade later,
The Fate of the Furious
is making its way up the global streaming charts, per
FlixPatrol
. The film, written by Gary Scott Thompson and Chris Morgan and directed by F. Gary Gray, is, as of June 27,
No. 5 on Netflix’s global charts.
The Fate of the Furious
is ahead of movies like
Land of Bad, Raid 2, The Valet, Forgetting Sarah Marshall,
and
Case 39.
A Hugely Successful Film in the Fast & Furious Franchise
The movie is one of the more successful films in the franchise and follows Dom (
Vin Diesel
), who has recently married Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), trying to settle into married life. However, Dom and his crew find a new challenge when Cipher (Charlize Theron) forces Dom into a situation where he is forced to betray the ones closest to him.
Statham stars as Deckard Shaw, who is a former intelligence agent
and special forces officer who was imprisoned by Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and the DSS. He allies himself with Dom in an effort to take out Cipher.
Russell plays Mr. Nobody, who is the leader of a covert ops team
that had previously helped Dom and his team defeat Deckard in Abu Dhabi.
The film was a hit in theaters, earning more than $1.2 billion worldwide upon its release. It currently holds a 67% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 72% audience rating with more than 25,000 reviews.’

The Movie Led to Statham & Dwayne Johnson’s Spinoff Film
The Fate of the Furious
also led to the 2019
spinoff film
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
,
which, although not as successful as its predecessor, earned a respectable $760.7 million worldwide.
The film also led to sequels
F9: The Fast Saga
and
Fast X.
Statham is also expected to return in
Fast X: Part 2
,
which is slated for 2026. Although
Part 2
has not begun filming yet,
Diesel has stated he will release a short film
that will set up the movie, which is similar to something he did for 2009’s
Fast & Furious.
Reportedly,
Part 2
will get back to basics for the car racing franchise
and will focus on its roots in street racing, and will have a smaller budget. The
Fast and the Furious
franchise is the highest-earning franchise for Universal, having earned
$7 billion worldwide since the first movie in 2001.
For fans who want to see Statham, Russell, and the rest of the crew,
The Fate of the Furious
is set to stream for free
on Tubi beginning on July 1. The film also stars Tyrese Gibson,
Scott Eastwood,
and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges.
Fast and Furious 11 Will End the Franchise With a Bang

With
The Fate of the Furious
dominating Netflix’s charts, fans are still eagerly anticipating the eleventh and final installment in the long-running franchise. Tentatively titled
Fast and Furious 11
, the upcoming film is the second in a two-part finale that began two years ago in
Fast X
, which saw Dominic Toretto and his team face off against Jason Momoa’s villainous Dante. Many of Dom’s crew members’ fates were left uncertain by the end of the most recent film, suggesting that the upcoming sequel could kick off with devastating deaths that are sure to change the franchise forever.
While production on
Fast and Furious 11
has been long, the film finally has an official release date. At the FuelFest event in Los Angeles (via
ScreenRant
), Vin Diesel took to the stage to make several major announcements about the upcoming
Fast & Furious
finale. Among these was the confirmation that
the film will hit theaters in April of 2027.
This was far from the biggest announcement made that day, however. Diesel also announced that the film will be returning to Los Angeles for a more grounded street-level story and that it will feature the return of Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner fourteen years after the actor’s tragic death. Check out Diesel’s full comments below:
The studio said to me, Vin, can we please have the finale of Fast & Furious [in] April 2027? I said under three conditions. The first is to bring the franchise back to LA. The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing.
The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner
. That is what you’re going to get in the finale.
While there are still plenty of details to be ironed out, it seems Universal will find some way to bring Brian O’Conner back to the big screen, whether through archive footage of Walker or a mix of CGI and stand-ins, as was the case for much of
Furious 7
.
Fast and Furious 11
is confirmed to include many
other returning cast members
from previous entries in the franchise, including Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar, who was recently revealed to have survived her apparent death during the events of
Fast and Furious 6
. Statham is also confirmed to reprise his role as Deckard Shaw after
Fast X
left his character on a cliffhanger as he set out to save his mother, Hattie, from Dante’s minions. As for Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, the character is still missing following his mysterious disappearance in
F9
. However, his daughter, Tess (Brie Larson), is expected to appear in the film after her debut in
Fast X
.
