Once upon a time, this grand family residence stood majestically amidst vast expanses of breathtaking landscapes in Oxfordshire.
But now
James Corden
The UK mansion that he intended to tear down and replace with an £8 million new residence hasn’t fared well over time as it has been left abandoned by the celebrity owner.
The British comic and performer intended to substitute the building with a sizable residence featuring six bedrooms, along with a swimming pool and spa.
However, this week it was revealed that Corden will be heading back to the US for an 17-week engagement on Broadway in New York, where he will star in a play.
Recently discovered images expose the condition of the abandoned house, depicting a desolately vacant indoor swimming pool filled with dust and debris.
At the same time, the interior floors of the mansion are visible under a layer of shattered glass and rubble, whereas the exterior appears neglected with overgrowth and an unkempt appearance.
Residents of the charming nearby towns worry that the celebrity’s construction endeavor may remain unfinished indefinitely.
Jayne Worral, who has owned The Bull pub in neighboring Wargrave since 1980, stated that it would be considered ‘blasphemy’ if Corden were to let the property remain vacant.
Jayne, who is 72 years old, stated: “If he isn’t going to reside in it himself, he ought to put the property up for sale so a family could make use of it instead. To purchase such an impressive place and leave it vacant is disgraceful. He really should feel embarrassed about this. It’s simply unfair.”
I am 72 years old, and I’ve noticed significant changes in society—it’s all about money, money, money, and me, me, me these days. While we do have a strong community around us, numerous local stores have shut down as people lead increasingly solitary lives.
A local commented, “Individuals such as James Corden believe they have free rein to act however they please.”
We require residents who genuinely live in these nearby properties and actively participate in local affairs rather than having ambitious plans only to leave the country later. What we need is stability.
He caused quite an uproar over insisting that the plans should follow his vision. Now with him departing, what exactly is happening?
‘That would make a beautiful home and environment for a local person.’
Sue Harris, who has been employed at a neighborhood store in the adjacent town of Henley since 1997, concurred that it would be unfortunate if the famous person allowed the property to fall into disrepair.
She remarked, “It would be a pity if it remained vacant because we have many characters eager to reside here. Liam Gallagher once visited with his children, and he turned out to be quite charming. One can never tell who might step through the entrance.”
However, Sue expressed her concern that large-scale acquisitions of properties by ultra-wealthy individuals such as Mr. Corden were rendering Henley and nearby villages too expensive for working-class residents who had grown up in those areas.
She stated, “My daughter leases a place in Henley and her rent exceeds what we pay for our mortgage. The issue seems to be all these affluent individuals relocating here and driving up property values.”
Sue mentioned that she had never actually met Mr. Corden, but she felt he came across as ‘arrogant’ due to his behavior at the property and his involvement in an earlier prolonged planning disagreement.
She stated, “Whatever happens, things always work out for him; he’s content. However, when things don’t go as planned, he has tantrums.”
However, a local builder mentioned that he had encountered Mr. Corden multiple times because his father had gone to school with the celebrity at Holmer Green Senior School near High Wycombe.
He stated, “He’s a wonderful guy—however, purchasing a home and not residing in it at all is crazy. Yet, since he’s wealthy, he leads a distinct way of life.”
Martin Walker, aged 78, stated: “If James Corden fell on me, I wouldn’t recognize him. However, I am familiar with both the plot of land and its surroundings. I hope he tears it down soon because I dislike how this round structure looks; it doesn’t benefit anybody.”
A representative for James informed MailOnline that the celebrity does not intend to relocate permanently to the United States.
Last January, specialists had cautioned that the surrounding region was scattered with artifacts from both Roman times and earlier periods. They emphasized that further archaeological investigations were necessary to determine if there might be ancient settlements located at the site where Corden’s Templecombe House now stands.
In order to carry out the massive construction project, James needed to adhere to numerous regulations aimed at protecting local flora and fauna, as reported by The Sun.
Mr. Corden is scheduled to head back to the U.S. for his role in the upcoming production of “ART,” which is slated to premiere at Broadway’s Music Box Theatre on September 16th.
The television celebrity resided in the United States for eight years before returning to their homeland in 2023 alongside their spouse Julia and their trio of kids.
He enjoyed an extended tenure on one of America’s most impactful television shows, TheLate Late Show.
In 2022, when discussing his departure from his home in Los Angeles, he stated: “Although I adore living in Los Angeles, we always understood that it would be an exciting journey rather than our ultimate stop.”
