JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) — It might be hard to accept, but the first day of the upcoming school year is nearly upon us.
Numerous local groups are working to reduce the financial strain on area families. Two entities in Jackson County are contributing to their neighborhoods.
Purchasing new clothing and school materials can be an expensive task for parents when getting their children ready for the new school year.
It’s very challenging for families with limited income.
Luckily, groups are intervening to assist by funding school supply distributions.
The Alford Community Organization held its yearly back-to-school event on Thursday evening.
So this is our fourth year hosting our back-to-school event,” said Somer Holland, a Public Relations Representative for ACO. “This event holds a special place in our hearts because many of us have children and grandchildren who have attended our local schools. We also have educators within ACO who have witnessed the financial strain that school supplies place on families. This is our way of giving back, allowing children to obtain their school supplies. It helps free up money for families to purchase other essentials like school clothes or new shoes, whatever they need to succeed in the new school year.
This gathering provided educational materials and refreshments to attendees.
Children in Marianna were given the opportunity to gather some free school supplies on Friday morning at Emerald Coast Hospice.
Emerald Coast collaborated with nearby groups to offer a drive-thru distribution of supplies.
Our third year of organizing this back-to-school event at the Emerald Coast Hospice office in Marianna,” said Market Manager Sunshine Speers. “At Emerald Coast Hospice, we strongly feel that contributing to our community is very significant. Any effort we make to support our community’s needs is truly a gift.
Both groups are able to organize these events due to contributions from donations, volunteers, and affiliated organizations that offer their time and financial support to supply the necessary materials.
Numerous comparable events are happening within the next week or so.
