Ireland Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Rain Warning for Multiple Counties

Weather Warnings Issued for Parts of the Country

A series of weather warnings have been issued for various regions across the country, signaling the arrival of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. These alerts are set to impact different areas over the coming days, with specific details provided by meteorological authorities.

Amber Rain Warning in Effect

An amber rain warning has been issued for Antrim, Armagh, and Down, which will come into effect at 11pm tonight and remain active until 8am on Monday morning. This warning highlights the potential for very heavy rainfall, which could lead to flooding. The UK Met Office has warned that Sunday night will see significant precipitation, emphasizing the need for caution in these areas.

In addition to the amber warning, a status yellow rain warning is also active from 6pm on Sunday to 6pm on Monday for the same regions. This indicates that while the risk is lower than the amber alert, there is still a possibility of heavy rain and localized flooding.

Expansion of Warnings

Starting at midnight on Monday, a new status yellow rain warning will be in place for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Wicklow, and Monaghan. This warning comes as Met Eireann anticipates thunderstorms and spells of heavy rain. They have noted that isolated thunderstorms may occur, adding an extra layer of unpredictability to the weather conditions.

The status yellow warning for these areas will remain active until 12pm on Monday, ensuring that residents are aware of the potential for severe weather throughout the day.

Forecast for the Coming Days

Met Eireann has provided an overview of the weather expected in the coming days, highlighting a mix of conditions. They have stated that the week will begin with showers or longer periods of rain, sometimes heavy, which could result in spot flooding. By midweek, the frequency of showers is expected to decrease, offering some relief from the persistent rain.

Monday 21st July

On Monday, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with showers or longer spells of rain. The heaviest rainfall is expected over parts of Leinster and East Ulster, where spot flooding could occur. As the day progresses, the showers will become more isolated, allowing for some brightening in the west and south. Temperatures will range between 15 to 20 degrees, with light to moderate winds from the west to northwest.

By Monday night, any remaining rain will be confined to northeastern parts of Ulster. Elsewhere, a mix of cloud and clear spells will develop, along with isolated showers. The lowest temperatures will range between 10 to 13 degrees, with light to moderate westerly winds, and fresh to strong winds on the northwestern coasts.

Tuesday 22nd July

Tuesday will start with some drier and brighter intervals, particularly away from the Atlantic coasts. However, showers will become widespread from the west through the afternoon, some of them heavy. The highest temperatures will range between 16 to 19 degrees, with light to moderate winds from the west to northwest.

As the day transitions into Tuesday night, the showers will become isolated and increasingly confined to western and northern coasts. The lowest temperatures will remain between 10 to 13 degrees, with light to moderate winds, and fresh near the northwestern coastal fringes.

Wednesday 23rd July

On Wednesday, the weather will feature a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will be less heavy than the previous days and will become isolated by evening. The highest temperatures will range between 15 to 19 degrees, with light to moderate northwest breezes, and fresh winds at times on windward coasts.
