IONNA Joins Wawa to Install Ultra-Fast EV Chargers

IONNA and Wawa Partner for Ultra-Fast EV Charging

IONNA, a joint venture backed by eight major automakers—BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota—is expanding its presence across the United States. The company has partnered with Wawa, a well-known convenience store chain, to install ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers at various locations. This collaboration aims to support the growing demand for EV infrastructure and provide drivers with faster and more convenient charging options.

One of the standout features of IONNA’s ultra-fast EV chargers is their ability to add up to 248.5 miles of range in just 15 minutes. This impressive speed makes it easier for drivers to recharge their vehicles quickly without having to wait for extended periods.

The first IONNA charging site will open next week at Wawa’s location at W. International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. In addition to this opening, several other charging sites, referred to as Rechargeries by IONNA, are currently under construction in Bradenton, Pensacola, and Orlando. These new locations are part of IONNA’s broader strategy to build a national network of fast-charging stations that will make long-distance travel in electric vehicles more feasible.

Wawa’s chief fuel officer, Rich Makin, emphasized the importance of this partnership in meeting customer needs. “With an ongoing commitment to providing our customers with speed and convenience, our new collaboration with IONNA does just that,” he said.

IONNA has already deployed 212 live charging bays and has 3,064 contracted bays in the works. The company has set an ambitious goal to install 30,000 fast charging bays across North America by 2030. This expansion will significantly enhance the availability of fast-charging options for EV drivers nationwide.

Wawa Expands into Tennessee Market

In addition to its EV charging initiatives, Wawa is also making strides in its retail expansion. The Delaware County-based convenience store chain has recently entered the Tennessee market. This marks a significant step in Wawa’s growth strategy as it continues to expand its footprint across the country.

New Wawa stores are set to open in Murfreesboro and Clarkesville, both located in the Nashville area. The construction for the Murfreesboro location is scheduled to begin on August 12, followed by the Clarkesville store on August 13. These new locations will serve as convenient stops for residents and travelers looking for a wide range of products and services.

Wawa’s expansion into Tennessee reflects its commitment to bringing its unique brand of convenience and quality to new markets. With its focus on customer service and a diverse product selection, Wawa is well-positioned to succeed in the competitive retail landscape of the region.

Future of EV Charging and Retail Expansion

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, partnerships like the one between IONNA and Wawa play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation. By combining Wawa’s extensive network of convenience stores with IONNA’s advanced charging technology, the two companies are helping to create a more sustainable and efficient driving experience.

In addition to the EV charging initiative, Wawa’s expansion into Tennessee highlights the company’s strategic approach to growth. By entering new markets and establishing a strong presence in key cities, Wawa is building a robust retail network that can serve a wide range of customers.

With these developments, both IONNA and Wawa are positioning themselves as leaders in their respective industries. Their efforts to innovate and expand will likely have a lasting impact on how people travel and shop in the coming years.
