Manchester United
could re-evaluate a pursuit of Victor Osimhen after they failed to land their prime target, Liam Delap,
PUNCH Sports Extra
reports.
The Red Devils are understood to have been prioritising other targets due to Osimhen’s extortionate wage demands, but senior figures at Old Trafford have not had it all their own way this summer.
United have confirmed the £62.5m arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and Bryan Mbeumo has reportedly given the green light over a move to Old Trafford from Brentford, but the Red Devils are still in search of a striker.
As per Express, the potential need for an out-and-out No. 9 could drive them back towards Osimhen.
According to The Athletic, the Nigerian’s wage demands have stood in the way of United chiefs firming up their interest, but a ‘re-evaluation’ may take place as the window unfolds.
Osimhen spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, scoring 26 goals in 30 league games to emerge as the Super Lig’s top scorer. He also set a new personal season high record of 47 goals and eight assists in 41 games across all competitions.
The Nigerian’s loan spell has ended with Galatasaray, and he is certainly not returning to his parent club Napoli after their relationship broke down last summer.
The 26-year-old’s Napoli contract is believed to include a £63.3m release clause for clubs outside of Italy. Osimhen has also been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Al-Hilal.
Meanwhile, Saudi club Al-Hilal have initiated negotiations to acquire Osimhen, according to renowned transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Sources reveal that the Saudi side have offered €70m for the 26-year-old.
Of that sum, €65m is proposed to be paid upfront, with the remaining €5m structured as performance-related bonuses.
Osimhen’s contract with Napoli runs until the end of June 2026. According to Transfermarkt, his market value stands at €70m.
