Insurers Boost Awareness With Engaging Games

Insurance Awareness Month Kicks Off with Fun and Education in Ghana

The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) recently launched its annual Insurance Awareness Month celebrations with a vibrant event titled ‘Insurtainment’ held at the University of Ghana, Legon. This year’s initiative combined entertainment, education, and competition to raise awareness about the importance of insurance and make it more accessible to all Ghanaians.

Promoting Inclusivity and Education

The event aimed to highlight the role of insurance in providing security and protecting lives. Industry leaders used the platform to encourage Ghanaians to take insurance seriously, emphasizing the need for risk management and protection. They also showcased the GIA’s efforts in creating policies that cater to the diverse needs of the population, making insurance more inclusive.

By focusing on the informal sector, which constitutes around 80% of the country’s working population, the GIA seeks to bridge the gap between traditional insurance models and the realities faced by everyday citizens. The goal is to foster a culture where insurance is seen as an essential part of life rather than a luxury.

A Day of Sports and Competition

The 2025 Insurance Industry Fun Games brought together over 45 life and non-life insurance companies, reinsurers, micro-insurance firms, brokers, and agents. The event was not just about education but also about fun, with executives from various organizations competing in a range of sports and games.

Participants demonstrated their athletic abilities and teamwork, earning recognition through medals and trophies. The competition featured a variety of disciplines, including football, table tennis, athletics, volleyball, and tug-of-war, among others. These activities provided a unique opportunity for professionals to engage in friendly rivalry while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The Broader Impact of Insurance Awareness Month

The Insurance Awareness Month Celebration (IAMC) is an annual event organized by insurers and reinsurers across Ghana. Its primary objective is to educate the public about the benefits of insurance, as well as the responsibilities and obligations of policyholders. Through various activities, including seminars, workshops, and community outreach, the IAMC aims to increase financial literacy and promote informed decision-making.

In addition to raising awareness, the event serves as a platform for networking and collaboration within the insurance sector. It encourages social connections, promotes physical activity, and provides a fun way for professionals to unwind and enjoy themselves.

Conclusion

The ‘Insurtainment’ event marked a successful start to the Insurance Awareness Month in Ghana. By combining education with entertainment, the GIA has taken a significant step toward making insurance more accessible and understood by all Ghanaians. As the month progresses, further initiatives are expected to reinforce the message that insurance is not just a financial tool but a vital component of a secure and stable future.
