Will Ramos of Lorna Shore Shares His Passion for Metal and Future Collaborations
Will Ramos, the lead vocalist of Lorna Shore, has always been a strong advocate for the metal genre. During a recent appearance on Full Metal Jackie’s weekend radio show, he opened up about his aspirations for future collaborations and shared insights into the band’s latest album.
Ramos expressed his admiration for Sleep Token, stating that he would love to work with them. “This goes without saying. Everybody that knows me probably already knows this, but I would love to work with the band Sleep Token. I love their vocals, I love their music in general. It’s absolutely incredible.” He added, “Sleep Token, if you hear me out there, I’m coming for you. Hit me up, I’m ready to go, baby.”
The New Album: A Reflection of Emotion and Evolution
The conversation also touched on Lorna Shore’s new album, I Feel the Everblack Festering Within Me. Ramos explained that while the title is powerful, it doesn’t fully represent the album as a whole. “We have a lot of darker songs. We have a lot of diversity in this. We’ve got a lot of triumphant songs. We have a lot of sadder songs. We try to mix it all in there.”
He also revealed that the album title was inspired by a song about his family’s history with dementia. “The idea that eventually this void will consume me or my family and the fear of trying to run away from something that’ll inevitably just consume everything that you have or know,” he said.
Deepening the Conversation: Themes in “Oblivion”
Lorna Shore’s single “Oblivion” sparked a deeper discussion about the state of the world. Ramos reflected on the song’s themes, saying, “I think this is one of those things where we have discussions about this kind of stuff all the time. Regardless of whether we should do this to save the world or we should do this to save the environment, whatever it happens to be at the end of the day. It doesn’t seem like a lot of things are working.”
He emphasized the importance of questioning the direction humanity is heading, adding, “The idea is that if we keep going down this route, it’s not looking good for anybody.”
Growth and Challenges in the Band
As Lorna Shore approaches its fifth album, Ramos acknowledged the band’s evolution. “I think the best thing that we can do for every single one of us is just to keep trying to push the envelope in any way, whether it’s lyrically, whether it’s pattern wise.” He described the current iteration of the band as more vulnerable, heavier, and more triumphant than ever before.
Festival Headliner Status and the Journey to Success
Ramos reflected on Lorna Shore’s recent achievement of headlining the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. “For me, I’ve always imagined myself as like that Warped Tour kid. I’m 15 years old, going to these festivals, freaking out, watching these people just play these massive shows.” He expressed gratitude for the opportunity and shared his hope for the next generation of musicians. “If there’s anything that I can give to the next generation, is just keep being inspired, keep going to those festivals, keep dealing with the elements, surviving.”
The Importance of Documentation and Memories
The band’s Pain Remains photo book was another topic of discussion. Ramos praised the effort and noted how it helped him reflect on the journey. “It absolutely does. I feel like things are flying so fast. Sometimes I feel like you’re really absolved in that very moment.” He emphasized the value of documenting such moments, saying, “Having these pictures, this book in general, is such an eye opener.”
Motorsports: A New Passion
Beyond music, Ramos has developed a passion for motorsports. He shared how he got into it during a tour break when a friend invited him to a drift event. “It was incredible to see these cars just flying around these tracks like Mach 10.” He later bought two race cars and now competes at a professional level. His dream car? “If there’s any car that I could possibly ever own, it’d probably be a Mazda RX7. That thing is so freaking sick.”
Touring with Legends and Building Good Vibes
Looking ahead, Lorna Shore is set to tour with Black Dahlia Murder, Shadow of Intent, and Peeling Flesh. Ramos emphasized the importance of good vibes. “We are just looking for good vibes. At the end of the day, you think about it like any job that anybody could do. You just want to be with the people that make you feel good.”
He also shared a memorable experience from a past show, where fans begged for an encore after Lorna Shore’s performance. “I learned from that. Don’t ever tell people Lorna Shore is not coming back on stage because they booed. They weren’t booing me, but I happened to have been onstage while I had to be like, ‘Hey, give it up. No, they’re done. They’re not playing another song.’”
Final Thoughts
Ramos concluded the interview with gratitude and excitement for the future. “Thank you so much. I’ll see you guys soon.” Fans can pre-order I Feel the Everblack Festering Within Me and stay updated with Lorna Shore through their official channels.
