The Nigerian Police Force has been officially informed by the NCAA regarding an alleged event involving Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, who is widely recognized as KWAM 1. He is being accused of inappropriate behavior that reportedly hindered the secure functioning of an aircraft, violating the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023. This occurred after a reported incident on 5 August 2025 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The statement partially said, in response, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to start a comprehensive investigation into the issue immediately, to uncover the events that caused the unfortunate incident and ensure that justice is properly administered.
He stated that the police are dedicated to maintaining safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation industry and will keep collaborating with relevant parties to ensure adherence to aviation regulations.
“The Force guarantees the public that it is dedicated to maintaining safety and security in Nigeria’s aviation industry, while also pledging better cooperation with sector stakeholders to enhance aviation security and ensure strict adherence to aviation regulations,” the statement said.
PUNCH Online states that on August 5, 2025, KWAM 1 was engaged in a conflict at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while trying to board a ValueJet flight heading to Lagos.
The conflict started when he brought a flask on board, which airline personnel believed held alcohol, a banned item on domestic flights in Nigeria.
When the personnel asked him to hand over the flask, KWAM 1 refused. He subsequently allegedly attempted to prevent the aircraft from moving, intensifying the conflict.
In response to the incident, the NCAA revoked the credentials of team captain Oluranti Ogoyi and her first officer, Ivan Iloba, while KWAM 1 was added to a no-fly list by all Nigerian airlines for six months as the investigation continues.
KWAM 1 later expressed regret, stating that he never intended to breach aviation regulations or create disruption.
Nevertheless, demands for the investigation and prosecution of KWAM 1 intensified following an incident involving a passenger from Ibom Air, Comfort Emmanson, who was placed in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly attacking airline staff and security officers on a flight from Uyo to Lagos.
