Lisa McHugh has always been known for her passion for music, but her personal life is just as compelling. After receiving an incurable diagnosis, she’s taking a much-needed break to focus on her health and recovery. However, one thing remains clear—she has the unwavering support of her husband, Nathan, who has stood by her through every chapter of their journey.
Meeting the Love of Her Life
Lisa and Nathan’s love story began in an unexpected place—a night out in Enniskillen after a gig. Lisa recalls that she was with a friend when they stumbled upon Nathan, who was in town for a night out with his cousin. It was her friend who first noticed him, and from there, the two began to connect.
Lisa describes their meeting as fate, even though it was entirely coincidental. “He wasn’t living here at the time, but we just clicked,” she said. Their shared love for music became a key part of their relationship, setting the stage for a lifetime of memories together.
A Dreamy Wedding in Co. Donegal
In June 2022, Lisa and Nathan exchanged vows in a beautiful ceremony in County Donegal. The event was filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt moments. Lisa wore a stunning fitted gown with a lacy pattern and a long skirt, making her the star of the day. Their wedding guests included close friends and family, including notable names like Philomena Begley, Johnny Brady, Gary Gamble, and Lisa’s former partner, Nathan Carter.
The couple had faced delays during the pandemic, which meant that their son Milo was present at the wedding. His presence made the day even more meaningful, adding a special touch to their celebration. Lisa’s friend, who introduced them, also received a shout-out during the speeches, proving that sometimes the best matchmakers are those who simply bring people together.
Building a Family Together
Lisa and Nathan welcomed their first child, Milo, in January 2022. The new parents were over the moon, and Lisa shared a black-and-white photo of her son’s tiny hand with the caption: “He’s finally here and he’s everything.”
A few months later, in August 2021, Lisa announced the news of their baby with excitement. She described becoming a mother as her top aspiration and expressed how blessed they felt to start their family. Their family expanded again in July 2024 with the arrival of their daughter, Hallie. While her birth was challenging, Lisa and Nathan remained strong, showing their resilience as a couple.
Home Life and Musical Differences
Although Lisa grew up in Glasgow, she now calls Enniskillen home. She often shares glimpses of her family life, showcasing her children enjoying music. One of the many fun aspects of their household is their differing musical tastes. Lisa admitted that she and Nathan are “chalk and cheese” when it comes to music. While Nathan loves country, his first love is rap, and Lisa enjoys a variety of genres. Despite their differences, they manage to find common ground, especially when it comes to their wedding playlist.
Facing Challenges as a Team
Lisa and Nathan have faced numerous challenges together, none more difficult than when their daughter Hallie struggled with health issues. She had to spend time in the hospital due to RSV, and the couple endured a tough period. However, Hallie is now recovering well.
More recently, Lisa revealed that she has been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a condition that affects the brain and nervous system. Symptoms include limb weakness, seizures, and cognitive problems. While there is no cure, Lisa is focusing on managing her condition and taking time to rest. She credits stress and trauma as potential triggers and is working on adapting her lifestyle to support her recovery.
A Supportive Partnership
Throughout it all, Nathan has been a constant source of strength for Lisa. As she steps back from music and social media to focus on her health, she knows she has a partner who will be by her side every step of the way. Their love story continues to be one of resilience, love, and shared experiences.
