Honda Manufacturing Nigeria Limited has empowered 10 rural women farmers in the South-West region with agricultural tools and entrepreneurial training as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.
The company, during a community development programme held in Lagos under the theme ‘Empowering Women in Agriculture’, distributed Honda-branded farming equipment to the beneficiaries, aiming to boost productivity and reduce food insecurity.
According to a statement, the Managing Director of Honda Manufacturing Nigeria Limited, Tetsuya Kawai, said the gesture reflects Honda’s commitment to national development and the agricultural sector.
Kawai noted, “We recognise the vital role women play in Nigeria’s agriculture sector, and we’re committed to supporting them. This initiative is part of our broader mission to contribute positively to Nigerian society.”
The Sales Division Manager, Olabade Badejo, added that the support would help tackle food scarcity while promoting gender inclusion, stating, “This initiative sparks hope that empowering these women can help cushion the effects of food scarcity and insecurity.”
Consultant and Technical Team Lead to the Osun State Government on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, Professor Chinwe Obuaku, said capacity-building remains critical in addressing the challenges facing women farmers.
“Women in agriculture need to be empowered with entrepreneurial skills to improve their income and productivity,” she remarked.
One of the beneficiaries, Atinuke Lebile, commended the company for the support, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
Honda Manufacturing Nigeria Limited said it would continue implementing projects that promote community development, sustainability, and economic empowerment across the country.
