Historic milestone as school construction begins

Expansion of Heathfield Primary School’s Early Years Facilities

Work has begun on the construction of a new modern block at Heathfield Primary School, set to welcome a fresh intake of two-year-olds in September. This development marks a significant milestone for the school, as it enhances its already successful Early Years provision.

The building works are expected to be completed by the start of the new academic term. The new facility is designed to meet the growing demand for early childhood education and will provide a range of dedicated spaces for learning and play.

Features of the New Facility

The purpose-built structure will include a large, air-conditioned playroom, a dedicated sleep area, an eating and intervention room, and access to a spacious natural outdoor play area. These areas are carefully designed to support the developmental needs of young children.

The multi-purpose building will have the capacity to accommodate up to fifty children. Once completed, the First Steps provision will offer families access to 15-hour morning or afternoon sessions, as well as 30-hour full-time places. This flexibility aims to support working parents and provide high-quality care for children aged between nine months and three years.

Funding and Community Support

The project was made possible through a grant from the local authority, amounting to £151,000. This funding reflects the school’s commitment to providing excellent early years education and meeting the increasing demand for childcare services in the area.

Headteacher Mark Thornley shared his enthusiasm for the new development, stating: “We’ve secured the funding following a surge in children applying, so we wanted to accommodate this growth with the new building.”

He also highlighted that the completion of the site aligns with the availability of 30 hours of funded childcare per week for working parents in Bolton. “This is something that we had in mind when we were given funding for the space,” he added.

Educational Benefits

Heathfield Primary School offers an exciting and ambitious Early Years curriculum. The school’s environment is enriched with natural spaces and extensive play areas, which allow children the freedom to explore and learn.

The new provision is expected to help children develop essential skills such as building routines, improving communication and language abilities, expanding vocabulary, and fostering social growth. These foundational skills will prepare them for future academic success.

For those interested in securing a place for their child in September or January, the school encourages families to contact them directly. Parents can reach out via phone at 01204 333595 or send an email to [email protected] for more information.
