Helicopter Crash: GAF Calls for Careful Media Reporting

Accra, August 13, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces has warned journalists to stop publishing unverified and speculative reports about the helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, which resulted in eight fatalities.

“The Ghana Armed Forces have become aware of numerous speculative and unverified statements about the recent Air Force Z-9 Helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which resulted in the loss of all eight people aboard,” it stated.

A statement released by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General, Public Relations Unit of GAF, and shared with the Ghana News Agency emphasized the need for care to reduce the pain experienced by the families.

“In the interest of the grieving families and loved ones, the Armed Forces calls on media professionals, panelists, social commentators, bloggers, and content creators to exercise caution in their reporting, as a means of honoring the memories of the fallen heroes and easing the pain of those who have lost loved ones,” the statement mentioned.

The military services want to recognize the significant public attention regarding the incident, and they are conducting thorough investigations to determine the reason for the crash.

The military would take all necessary steps, such as working with global organizations, to resolve the matter, it stated.

“At this moment, any claimed findings derived from views, impressions, and guesses would be hasty and deceptive,” the statement mentioned.

Thus, the general population is encouraged to remain cautious about this kind of reporting.

The GAF thanked the Government, organizations, and numerous people for their assistance and offered its sympathies to the grieving families.

“May the spirits of our heroes remain at rest in peace,” it stated.
