As someone who
grew up with a phobia of dogs
, I can understand how dog breed stereotypes cause a lot of unnecessary fear. Even when I started feeling comfortable around canines, large dogs like German Shepherds still left me running in the opposite direction.
Of course, now I know that a dog’s family and environment play an even bigger role in their behavior than breed does, but I never get tired of seeing gentle giants like Luke the
German Shepherd
who help people and animals feel at peace despite their massive size.
Luke has the sweetest soul, whether he’s helping in the garden or playing with his friends, but his mom’s favorite thing about him is his special bond with a baby raccoon who made himself at home on the farm. The little one is part of the family now, but his friendship with the
giant dog
never gets old.
This couldn’t be any sweeter! The
raccoon baby
is absolutely obsessed with his canine companion, but I can’t help but wonder whether he thinks the long-haired German Shepherd is his mom. Whatever’s behind their deep bond, it’s ‘pawsitively’ priceless!

certainly has the maturity and attentiveness of a father, though he also gets the benefit of endless breaks and independence.

This
baby raccoon
has lived in the area since birth, but he and his late siblings became orphaned when their mother was hit by a car. Luckily, this selfless farm owner stepped in to feed him just in time, and now she’s helping him learn to catch food on his own. He doesn’t sleep indoors because he’s not a pet, but he’s become a welcome face around the farm nonetheless.
This dutiful dog stepped in as a father when this baby needed it the most, and he’ll never know just how valuable his presence has been. Let’s hope they remain this close when he’s all grown up, too!
