Heart-stopping moment: Delta Airlines Boeing engine catches fire on LA takeoff

Delta Airlines Plane Experiences Engine Fire Mid-Air

A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-400 experienced a sudden engine fire shortly after takeoff, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing. The incident occurred as the plane was en route to Atlanta, and footage captured the moment orange flames began to appear on the left engine.

Josh, who co-owns the YouTube channel LA Flights with Peter, was filming the event when he exclaimed, “Look at that!” and “Woah!” as he documented the unfolding situation. The video shows the dramatic moment the flames became visible, highlighting the severity of the issue.

As the plane circled back for an emergency landing, Josh noted on its descent: “Thankfully, the hydraulics are functioning and we got the landing gear down for the 767.” He then zoomed in on the left engine, commenting that the plane had landed “nice and safely.”

Emergency vehicles were quickly dispatched to the scene, arriving as the aircraft came to a stop. A Delta Airlines spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after departure due to an indication of an issue with the aircraft’s left engine.

This is not the first time a Boeing aircraft has experienced engine-related issues in Los Angeles. Earlier in the week, another Boeing 737 suffered a similar fate. Video footage captured the terrifying moment the jet began sparking and shooting flames into the night sky shortly after takeoff. Passengers described the experience as resembling a mid-air “explosion.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation following the incident involving Sun Country Airlines. The problem occurred with the right engine of a Boeing 737 during a flight departing from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday night. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing back at LAX.

Flight 430, which was en route to Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, had 166 passengers onboard when it encountered an issue with one of its engines. The pilots declared an emergency and safely returned to LAX. Upon arrival, fire trucks and emergency officials were already waiting for the plane, ready to respond if needed.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety and reliability of aircraft engines, prompting further scrutiny from aviation authorities. While both events ended without major injuries, they serve as a reminder of the potential risks involved in air travel.

Aviation experts are closely monitoring the situation, and investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause of the engine failures. The FAA and other regulatory bodies are expected to release detailed reports once the findings are finalized.

For now, travelers and aviation enthusiasts remain vigilant, hoping that such incidents become increasingly rare. The recent events underscore the importance of continuous maintenance and safety checks in the aviation industry. As technology advances, so too must the protocols and measures in place to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.
