On Saturday, following his involvement in the World Health Assembly, Egypt’s Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim had a meeting with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom. Dr. Haitham also addressed the problem of budget shortfalls and emphasized the importance of giving priority to Sudan in the upcoming period due to the present conditions.
He likewise talked about establishing additional lines of communication with donors at the regional level concerning the health support initiative with the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action (KSRelief).
The Minister additionally called for the implementation of several key initiatives, including formulating a plan to reconstruct the healthcare framework post-war and revitalizing certain establishments known historically and significantly within the region and globally, like the Public Health Laboratory (STAC) and the Mycetoma Research Centre.
Dr. Tedros expressed his gratitude to the Sudanese government and the Ministry of Health for their work, vowing to put in additional effort and reach out to donors as well as UN partners concerning the situation in Sudan, focusing on securing funds and improving services.
