Mississippi State entered the 2026 recruiting cycle in search of adding a placekicker to the class. On Monday evening that search ended as the Bulldogs got a commitment from their top target in
Hayden Chambers.
The Fort Payne (Ala.) High School product announced his decision via his Twitter page and he also held an offer from Auburn.
“Many people know me as a football player, but my identity is 100% in Christ,” said Chambers in a tweet. “I’m so grateful for this opportunity to compete at the SEC level!Thank you to my coaches who push me to be a better version of myself everyday and hold me to the standard of Fort Payne football. Thank you Mom and Dad for teaching me that above all else always keep Jesus number 1 in my heart, and show him in all that I do.
Thank you to my friends for always having my back and being there for me in time of need. If you think that God won’t bless you for your hard work, I’m a testament to that! All glory to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirt!”
Chambers officially visited Mississippi State two weekends ago and noted at that time his decision would likely happen before his senior season got underway. He also talked well of his relationship with Mississippi State special teams coordinator Cliff Odom.
“It was great and I love Coach Odom,” said the 6-foot-1 and 185-pound Chambers last week. “He’s an energetic guy and he’s good to be around. Coach (Jef) Lebby likes to get to know all of the recruits well. He made me feel like I was one of theirs already and that was pretty cool.”
Last season as a junior, Chambers was 2 of 2 on extra points while Fort Payne’s senior kicker Conner Hughes handled all of the field goal attempts and most of the extra points. Chambers had 32 kickoff attempts, as well, with 25 going for touchbacks and also averaged 39.1 yards a punt.
Chambers is the second specialist to commit to Mississippi State this year as he joins 2027 punter
Gunnar Gillentine
of Petal High School. Chambers is listed as a five-star kicker by Kohl’s kicking.
