A Celebration of Achievement and Resilience at Harborfields High School
GREENLAWN, NY — The Harborfields High School class of 2025 recently marked a significant milestone in their lives with the school’s 66th Commencement Ceremony. Despite the overcast skies, the energy and pride of the graduates were undeniable as they gathered to celebrate their accomplishments on Saturday, June 28.
The event was filled with heartfelt moments, reflecting the journey of the students over the past 13 years. Superintendent Dr. Rory Manning highlighted the shared experience of the class, noting that it coincided with his own tenure as principal. His remarks emphasized the growth and progress made by the students throughout their time at the school.
Student speakers delivered powerful messages that resonated with both the graduates and the audience. Their speeches touched on themes of resilience, gratitude, and the cherished memories formed during their high school years. These messages served as a reminder of the challenges overcome and the support systems that helped each student reach this moment.
Valedictorian Sara Tovar-Guacaneme delivered an emotional tribute to the people who supported her throughout her academic journey. Her speech was a touching acknowledgment of the family, teachers, and friends who played a role in her success. It was a moment that left many in attendance deeply moved.
Retiring faculty member Scott Wallace also shared words of wisdom with the graduates. His message was one of encouragement, urging the students to carry forward the lessons learned and to remain true to themselves as they move into the next chapter of their lives.
One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony came when George Kouroutis presented a diploma to Vance Sherman. This act was particularly meaningful, as Kouroutis had previously helped save Sherman’s life on the same field just a few years earlier. The gesture symbolized not only a personal triumph but also a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have on another’s life.
Before the ceremony concluded, Principal Philip Farrelly presented each graduate with a parting gift—a keychain featuring a mirror on the back. In his closing remarks, he encouraged the students to use the mirror as a daily reminder to reflect on their journey, stay grounded in their purpose, and take pride in who they are becoming.
As the ceremony drew to a close, the graduates tossed their caps into the air, marking the official transition from students to alumni. The class of 2025 now carries with them the memories, lessons, and connections forged during their time at Harborfields High School.
This graduation ceremony was more than just a celebration of academic achievement; it was a testament to the strength, perseverance, and community spirit that define the Harborfields High School experience. As these young adults step into the future, they do so with the support of their families, teachers, and the entire Harborfields community behind them.
