Guillermo del Toro’s
long-cherished dream of adapting Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein came to life with a gripping teaser trailer unveiled at Netflix Tudum 2025 on May 31.
The Academy Award-winning director, joined by stars
Oscar Isaac
and
Jacob Elordi
, introduced the haunting preview, which promises a dark, emotional reimagining of the 1818 novel. “This has been, for me, the culmination of a journey that has occupied most of my life,”
del Toro shared
, reflecting on his childhood fascination with Shelley’s tale and Boris Karloff’s iconic 1931 portrayal.
The teaser opens with Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein declaring, “Some of what I will tell you is fact. Some is not. But it is all true.” This sets the tone for a story exploring the fraught bond between creator and creation, embodied by Elordi’s tragic creature.

Del Toro’s signature gothic imagery echoes his past works in films such as “
Crimson Peak”
and “
Hellboy II
.”
“Exploring the relationship between humanity and monsters, creator and creation, father and son has consumed my stories again and again,” del Toro said, noting his 25-year pursuit of this project.
Isaac, portraying Victor, called the role “the experience of a lifetime,” praising the film’s blend of creature-feature roots and deep emotional drama. Mia Goth, playing Victor’s fiancée Elizabeth Lavenza, said she “couldn’t wait to dive in” to del Toro’s vision.
The teaser hints at a visually stunning, character-driven narrative, steeped in del Toro’s lifelong reverence for monsters as a “personal belief system.”
Set to premiere on Netflix in November 2025, “
Frankenstein”
