Get Ready: Major Lane Shifts Coming to Interstate 25

With all the construction that feels like it will never end, driving on Interstate 25 has been no walk in the park. Now get ready for another big change coming in less than two weeks.

On the night of July 12, the lanes in the vicinity of the Montgomery and Comanche exits will shift to new outer lanes that have just been paved. Work on the inside lanes was scheduled to begin Monday but was delayed because of weather.

“We’re asking people to slow down, especially in the work zone, where we’ve noticed a higher speed in that area. Just remember it’s 55 miles per hour in the work zone,” said Kimberly Gallegos, spokesperson for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. “We’re trying to keep everybody safe out there. We want to make sure they get home to their families.”

Signs saying “Be Patient” might be a good idea. The entire project isn’t expected to be complete until the spring of 2027.
