The Nigerian Sports Writers Association (SWAN), Chairman Comrade Benjamin Kemje Isaiah, has urged members to actively participate in sports governance at local, national, and global levels.
During SWAN’s hosting of the Director-General of New Media for Bayelsa State, Governor Mr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe attended the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF), also known as ‘Ogun 2024,’ where the President delivered remarks.
He mentioned that participating in sports politics would provide members with the chance to stay informed about developments within sports federations and guarantee that SWAN members receive treatment proportional to their level of dedication, ensuring comprehensive coverage across all pertinent sporting organizations.
The SWAN President praised the aide of the Bayelsa State Governor for courageously entering politics and managing sports in Nigeria. He also urged members to back this individual.
The SWAN President referred to Kolawole Oredipe as an experienced journalist and sports writer, stating, “We should back Kolawole; he was once among us and remains deeply intertwined with our community.”
Previously, Kolawole Oredipe informed the Sports Writers about his plans to run for the position of South-South Zonal Board Member at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN). He has now approached them to seek their backing and support.
Kolawole informed SWAN members that over a span of 25 years, he has been active in both print journalism, having once been part of the Correspondents chapel in Bayelsa State, and electronic media where he served as a reporter and sports presenter. He eventually climbed his way up to become an Assistant Director of News at Radio Nigeria’s South-South zone.
Supported by members of SWAN and the NUJ as well, Kolawole Oredipe conveyed his confidence that he would secure victory in the race for representing the South-South region on the AFN board.
