Germany: Car Crashes Into Trampoline, Stuck in Barn Roof

A Dramatic Car Accident Leaves Two Seriously Injured

On a Saturday evening, a dramatic car accident unfolded in the small town of Bohmte, located near Osnabrück in the northwestern German state of Lower Saxony. The incident left two people seriously injured, including a seven-year-old boy, and created a scene of significant destruction.

According to local police, the car appeared to have left the road at high speed before colliding with a parked vehicle and crashing through a hedge. On the other side of the barrier, the car fell approximately 1.5 meters into a lower-lying backyard, where it landed on a trampoline. This impact resulted in injuries to a child who was playing on the trampoline.

The car then seemed to be propelled further into the air, either due to the terrain or the bounce from the trampoline, eventually crashing into the attic of a barn about 3 meters off the ground. A local resident described the moment they realized what had happened: “There was a massive clatter and we just thought: Help! What has happened?” They added, “Then we ran outside and saw the car in the roof.”

Details of the Injuries and Response

The driver of the car, a 42-year-old man, sustained only minor injuries. Additionally, three boys aged 11, 12, and 13 in the back seat were slightly hurt. However, a 43-year-old woman in the passenger seat and the young boy on the trampoline were seriously injured. According to police, the child was in a life-threatening condition.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, with dozens of personnel involved, including firefighters, police, technical relief staff, 12 ambulance crews, and emergency pastoral carers. Two rescue helicopters were also circling overhead during the operation.

“This is clearly an extraordinary deployment,” said a fire brigade spokesperson. The occupants of the car were taken to various local clinics, where the driver had blood samples taken and his driving license confiscated. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident and have ruled out alcohol as a potential factor.

Removal and Investigation

The car had to be carefully removed from the barn’s roof using a crane and was later impounded by prosecutors for further investigation. The scene showed a trail of destruction, including branches ripped off trees, tiles torn off roofs, a smashed hedge, and a wrecked trampoline.

The entire operation continued until around 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, highlighting the complexity and scale of the response required to manage such an unusual and dangerous situation.

This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of accidents and the importance of quick and coordinated emergency responses. As investigations continue, authorities will work to determine the exact cause of the crash and ensure that similar incidents are prevented in the future.
