Nottingham Forest’s Ambitions and Transfer Drama
Nottingham Forest are reportedly making a bold move to secure the services of an England hero should Morgan Gibbs-White complete a £60 million transfer to Tottenham. This development has sparked significant interest in the football world, with fans and analysts alike watching closely.
Two weeks ago, Gibbs-White seemed destined to join Spurs after they triggered his release clause and booked his medical. However, the deal is now on hold as Forest threatens legal action against their Premier League rivals. The club believes that Tottenham made an illegal approach for their star player, which has created a tense situation.
Despite the uncertainty, Gibbs-White remains focused on his responsibilities. He has continued to report for training and started Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Monaco. The 25-year-old midfielder, who moved to the City Ground from Wolves in 2022 in a deal worth up to £42 million, has been instrumental in helping Forest qualify for Europe last season. His performance was marked by 17 goal contributions, showcasing his value to the team.
Forest have no intention of selling Gibbs-White, especially after seeing Anthony Elanga join Newcastle. However, the club has already lined up a replacement just in case. According to reports from The Telegraph, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are among the clubs pushing to sign Manchester City star James McAtee, who is valued at £35 million.
McAtee, a highly-rated attacking midfielder, has not received much playing time under Pep Guardiola, who has given him just three Premier League starts last season. Despite this, several clubs are interested in his talents. West Ham, Borussia Dortmund, and Frankfurt are all pursuing the 22-year-old, who recently turned down the chance to play at the Club World Cup to instead captain England to glory at the U21 Euros.
McAtee recently met with the German clubs and was impressed by their offers. The Irons believe he could replace Mohammed Kudus, who recently joined Spurs for £55 million. However, all four interested clubs don’t agree with City’s price tag. Instead, they value the attacking midfielder, who has entered the last year of his contract, at £20-25 million.
Manchester United had previously been linked with a shock move for the Citizen, but their interest has almost certainly cooled following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
As the summer transfer window continues, Forest is preparing for its pre-season tour of Portugal and the start of the new season. The club will kick off on August 17 against Brentford, with or without Gibbs-White and McAtee.
