Ford Recalls Over 694,000 Vehicles Due to Fuel Injector Issues

Ford has initiated a significant recall of more than 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles due to a potential safety hazard involving the fuel injectors. The issue arises when the fuel injectors may crack and leak, which could lead to a fire risk. This problem is particularly concerning if the leaked fuel comes into contact with hot engine components or the exhaust system.

The affected models include certain 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape vehicles that are equipped with 1.5L engines. Ford has been investigating this issue since 2022, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The company’s field review committee approved multiple recalls throughout 2022, 2024, and 2025, during which software updates were implemented to address the concern.

Despite these initial steps, Ford continues to explore the root causes of the fuel injector cracking. As part of an ongoing investigation, the automaker examined corrosion as a possible contributing factor between April and May 2025. During this period, Ford identified instances of injector cracking in eight vehicles that experienced underhood fires. Notably, six of these vehicles had not received the latest engine control software updates.

To date, Ford has not reported any injuries related to the fires caused by the fuel injector issues. However, the company remains proactive in addressing the problem. Earlier this month, Ford’s field review committee made the decision to issue a recall for specific vehicles to update their engine control software at no cost to the owners. This step is intended to mitigate the risk until a permanent solution is developed.

Vehicle owners will receive a letter notifying them of the safety risk on August 18. A second letter will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners who have questions or need further information can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 25S76.

This recall highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and staying informed about manufacturer updates. It also underscores the responsibility of automakers to ensure the safety of their products and to take swift action when potential hazards are identified.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, such recalls serve as reminders of the critical role that quality control and continuous improvement play in consumer safety. Ford’s commitment to addressing this issue demonstrates its dedication to protecting its customers and maintaining trust in its brand.
