Tributes Pour In for Beloved Teacher Eddie Chapman

Floral tributes have been placed outside Gateacre School following the passing of a much-loved teacher, Eddie Chapman. His son, Ed, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook earlier this week, revealing that Eddie passed away on July 9 after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family at the time, and received outstanding care from the staff on ward three at Clatterbridge Hospital in Liverpool.

Eddie’s loved ones described him as an amazing husband, father, grandad, brother, uncle, and friend. They expressed their deep sorrow, stating that words could not convey how much he meant to them. The family mentioned they would share more details about funeral arrangements soon, and invited all who knew and loved Eddie to join them in mourning. A heartfelt message concluded with “YNWA,” a common phrase used by Liverpool FC fans.

Gateacre School also released a statement in tribute to Mr. Chapman, acknowledging his role as a former valued member of their staff. The school noted that he left the institution in 2024 and will be remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of knowing him. They extended their condolences to his family and friends, while respecting their privacy during this difficult time.

In the days following his passing, a touching display of remembrance has been seen outside the school. Former pupils, staff members, and friends have left flowers, sympathy cards, a blue teddy bear, and balloons. One of the messages read: “Eddie, what a man. RIP.” Another said: “Mr Chapman, thanks for everything. You will never be forgotten.”

Social media has also become a platform for former students and colleagues to share their memories of Eddie. One woman recalled: “We all used to call him Eddie in school; he was the best teacher ever. I never saw that lovely man angry the whole time I was in that school, and people did test it often.” Another added: “What a lovely man he was, so sad.”

A third person shared: “A beautiful soul who I had the pleasure of working with for many years. He made every day brighter. I’ll never forget my days with Ed, the singing and laughter – blessed to have known such a wonderful man.” Another tribute highlighted his sense of humor and kindness, saying: “Really shocked and saddened to hear this. Eddie was such an amazing guy, and a very funny one too, was great to work with him years ago. RIP Ed. YNWA.”

One final message captured the essence of Eddie’s impact: “A great teacher and an exemplary human being. Thank you for all the time, advice, tears, and laughter shared. You will live on in the hearts of hundreds. Rest in peace Eddie.”

The community has come together to celebrate the life of a man who touched many lives through his kindness, dedication, and unwavering positivity. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
