The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has enjoined performance and financial management officers (PFMOs) to put in their best for a stronger primary health care system in the country.
The executive director of the NPHCDA, Dr Muyi Aina, gave the advice Tuesday in Abuja during the national flag-off and onboarding training exercise for PFMOs.
While saying that one PFMO each has been deployed to all 774 local governments in the country, he added that the officers are ‘critical in working with the health facilities to not only monitor what they’re doing, but also to guide them as appropriate in certain areas that are not necessarily clinical, as well as management of resources placed in their care.’
He said they are change agents with responsibilities to own the healthcare of Nigerians along with others.
‘Hold us accountable. Hold yourselves accountable. See yourselves as agents of change in your communities and local governments. You need to discharge your role with the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and diligence.
‘Please wear this role as a badge of honour and understand that you are now part of a group with a cohort of people who are taking on the challenge of getting all of us, our friends, our families, our siblings, the health care that we need wherever we are,’ he said.
He stressed that the federal government has zero tolerance for non-performance, noting that the government is committed to supporting them with all the resources and work tools they need to achieve set targets.
He added that 60,000 frontline health workers out of the 120,000 targeted in four years have been trained to provide quality service at health facilities.
