Federal Court Upholds Job Corps Operations

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A federal district court has issued an order preventing the U.S. Department of Labor from shutting down Job Corps facilities nationwide.

One of these facilities is located in our region.

It’s the Mississippi Job Corps Center located in Crystal Springs.

The U.S. Congress created Job Corps in 1964 to offer young individuals educational and skills-based training opportunities.

The federal court approved a request submitted by seven Job Corps students and a national group aiming to prevent the shutdowns.

Supporters of Job Corps argue that the decision would have left at-risk youth without support, and today a federal judge ruled that shutting down the centers is unlawful.

There are 99 Job Corps locations spread across the nation.

You have the ability to review the court decreehere.
