Leonida shared that he lost his family’s ring at Southwest Plaza in Littleton. This particular ring holds more than just sentimental value; it carries memories of his late mother, who played an essential role in his life. “My mom was the most amazing mom,” he said. “She was the kind of mom other moms wish they could be and other kids wish they could have. She was just the absolute best mother anyone could ask for.”

The ring was made from one of his mother’s diamond earrings. Leonida received it when he turned 18, and it became one of the most precious items he owned. “There are things in life that are more important than things, but as far as physical possessions go, it was my most prized possession,” he explained. “I didn’t wear it often because it was so important. I always took care of it and kept it locked up.”

The loss of his mother earlier this year added to the weight of the missing ring. Leonida had traveled from Arizona to Colorado to be with his family during the time of the funeral, which was scheduled for June 30. It was just one day before the event that he accidentally left the ring in the food court bathroom while helping his children wash their hands.

“I took it off, and I remember thinking, ‘That’s probably not a good idea,'” Leonida recalled. He didn’t realize the ring was missing until hours later. When he returned to look for it, it was already gone. “I went and looked, and it was tragic because I could still see the water mark where I had put it on the counter,” he said. “I was in tears for I don’t know how long, and I think one of the hardest things about it is I know it was my fault.”

For Leonida, losing the ring felt like losing his mother all over again. “It feels like I’ve let her down,” he said. “I know she would never hold that over me, but it feels like I let her down.”

Despite the pain, Leonida’s search for the ring has inspired others to help. His story has spread across platforms like Reddit and other social media sites, drawing attention from people who want to assist in finding the ring. “It’s a reminder of the good in people, which gives me hope that whoever has the ring is inherently good and didn’t mean to hurt me,” he said.

While Leonida can’t regain the time he spent with his mother, he remains hopeful that someone might help return the ring, which has become a symbol of his lasting connection to her. “I still have how she raised me and the legacy she left,” he said.

Leonida’s family is offering a $4,000 reward for the return of the ring, hoping that someone will come forward and help bring back a piece of their family’s history.
