Kenya’s Faith Cherotich’s dominance in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in 2025 ended after losing to Olympic champion Winfred Yavi.
The Makueni-born Bahraini athlete dominated the latter stages of the race to cross the line in a world-leading time of 8:45.25.

The Olympic bronze medallist clocked a personal best of 8:48.71 to finish second while former Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai was third in 8:51.77.
Cherotich had beaten Yavi in three straight races before the Prefontaine Classic.
