Eritrean Community Festival Celebrates Unity and Resilience in the UK
The 2025 Eritrean Community Festival in the United Kingdom was a vibrant celebration of culture, unity, and national pride. Held on 12 and 13 July in London, the event centered around the theme “Our Cohesion – Our Armour,” highlighting the strength that comes from togetherness among the Eritrean diaspora.
Over 2,000 Eritreans from various cities across Britain attended the festival, showcasing the active participation and engagement of the community. The event was officially launched by Mr. Saleh Abdella, Chargé d’Affaires at the Eritrean Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland. His presence underscored the importance of the gathering and the support from the Eritrean government for the diaspora’s efforts to maintain cultural ties and promote national identity.
Mr. Mulubrhan Berhe, Chairman of the Holidays Coordinating Committee, and Mr. Ahmed Mahmud, Chairman of the National Committee, expressed their appreciation for the contributions made by individuals and organizations involved in organizing the festival. They also extended gratitude to all participants for their continued support and involvement in such meaningful events.
Mr. Saleh Abdella emphasized the significance of this year’s festival, noting that it took place during a critical period for Eritrea. He highlighted the country’s focus on national development programs while simultaneously addressing external challenges and threats. He encouraged Eritreans abroad to strengthen their unity, deepen their connection with their homeland, and actively engage in national affairs.
In addition to the cultural activities, the festival included a seminar led by Mr. Tewolde Yohannes, Head of Public and Community Affairs. The session provided insights into the current situation in Eritrea and the region. Mr. Tewolde emphasized that Eritrea remains steadfast in its commitment to national principles and continues to play a constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.
The festival featured a wide range of activities designed to entertain and educate attendees. Cultural and artistic performances were a central part of the event, with traditional music, dance, and art exhibitions drawing large crowds.
