ELMHURST, IL – It was Flag Day on Saturday. It was President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. It was the day of the big military parade in Washington.
And anti-Trump protests took place all over the country, including in Elmhurst.
Most of the demonstrators in the local “No Kings” rally were at Memorial Glos Park in downtown, with speakers at the monument’s base.
Many others lined up along Robert Palmer Drive, next to the park. Local police officers were on hand.
Organizers said the demonstration drew 1,200.
No visible counterprotest was seen, although some spoke of a person with a Trump sign on a nearby bridge.
Chanters shouted, “Trump has got to go!”
Many held American flags. A man with a Navy veteran’s cap helped hold up a sign that stated, “Hey, stumbling Donny Taco: Cowards don’t get parades.” The reference to “taco” is an acronym for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” referring to his backtracking on tariffs.
DuPage County Board member Andrew Honig was among the speakers. He referred to this week’s
removal of a U.S. senator
from a Trump official’s news conference.
“This is a new normal in an authoritarian administration,” he said. “ICE is kidnapping people in broad daylight en masse and unlawfully detaining United States citizens all over the country.”
According to the DuPage County Democratic Party, “No Kings” demonstrations were also held in Bartlett, Lisle, Naperville and Warrenville.
In the 2024 election, Trump lost virtually everywhere in Elmhurst, which was once solid Republican turf. This is a trend seen in suburbs across the country. Meanwhile, Trump’s support grew in several other demographics.
