El Paso Experts Sound the Alarm: Heatwave Poses Major Threat to Car Tires

As temperatures soar past 100 degrees, the heat is not only a threat to people but also to vehicles, particularly tires.

Abraham Maldonado, owner of Street Logics, explained the dangers of extreme heat on tires, saying, “Well, obviously, more heat, they over-inflate. So, you reduce the traction of your tire. Ok. You reduce traction of the tire, and you can get a blow-out as well.”

Maldonado emphasized that many people underestimate the impact of hot asphalt on tires, noting that prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to over-inflation and potential blowouts.

Local residents shared their approaches to car maintenance during the heatwave.

Mirna Agirra admitted, “I’m a girl, so. No, I don’t know if I should be taking any precautions. I just drive and turn on the AC, and I think I’m okay.”

Louis Miranda advised, “Well, definitely check your fluids, you know, make sure that you have plenty of radiator fluid.”

Chris Bruer said, “I just make sure the tires are properly inflated and that’s really about it and make sure everything maintenance wise is good to go.”

Meanwhile, Vance Mark expressed a more laid-back attitude, stating, “At that point, I think that’s like too much for me to even consider that I’m just like, I’m not going to waste my time thinking about that. You know what I mean? It is what it is. But I guess it is real hot, isn’t it?”

Experts recommend regular tire checks by professionals to ensure safety during extreme heat conditions.
