You might be excused for believing that Network Ten’s hit trivia program,
Are You Keeping Up With It?
, has turned into a ‘boot camp’ for TV hosts for those who star in it.
In recent times,
regular panellist Sam Pang
and recurring guests
Anne Edmonds
, Mel Tracina, and
Celia Pacquola
all have secured individual hosting positions within Ten.
Although this is fantastic news for them, it has numerous TV insiders questioning – why hasn’t the original star returned?
Ed Kavalee
Also having his time in the limelight?
Sam’s talk show debuted in March, whereas Celia has been hosting the program.
Thank God You’re Here
revival since 2023.
In the meantime, Anne has been chosen to lead the revamped version
Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Gen,
and
Mel is hosting the
Big Brother
reboot
.
Regarding Ed, he has only been selected for the forthcoming celebrity edition of
The Amazing Race
alongside
His spouse, renowned fitness instructor Tiffiny Hall.
Although it may not be negligible, according to one source, this particular engagement is somewhat seen as “a slight detour” for Ed, who at 45 years old, possesses enough comedic talent to handle virtually anything, particularly hosting his own show.
“There appears to be an inconsistency with the ‘side hustles,’ ” according to the source.
“Ed has been an integral part of the
HYBPA?
The family dynamic from day one suggests that Ed feels shortchanged compared to other panelists who get their own shows, while he is tasked with tackling challenges in distant places, which makes him seem as though he hasn’t had an opportunity to showcase his true capabilities.
In a recent show, the group reverted to their typical jest, teasing Ed about his social media pushes for protein powders, however, insiders remarked that the discussion swiftly took an “uncomfortable” turn.
“You’re on
The Amazing Race
“, you’ve got this side gig happening… is everything alright?” Sam playfully inquired of Ed, who replied with a firm “No!” amidst booming laughter from the studio crowd.
But Sam didn’t let up, “have you looked after your money, what’s going!?” he followed up.
Although the conversation was all in good fun, according to our source, “it turned out to be quite uncomfortable. You had Sam just coming from his own talk show teasing Ed about being involved with social media and reality TV—talk about a punchline!”
“Offering specific panelists additional hosting roles could elevate the chance of conflict arising within the team,” cautions an insider.
The biggest mistake for number 10 would be to endanger the camaraderie among that recurring troupe of humorists; the program has achieved far too much success to put everything at stake.
The source comments: “It will be intriguing to observe how Ten handles Ed.”
There’s tremendous potential for him with numerous new formats to discover. Fingers crossed, the 2026 lineup will be more favorable.
