Dustin the Turkey Confronts RTÉ Over The Den Reboot Cancellation

Dustin the Turkey Expresses Disappointment Over The Den’s Reboot Cancellation

Dustin the Turkey, the beloved talking turkey known for his quirky personality and unique voice, has expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of The Den’s reboot. The show, which made a comeback in 2020 with Ray D’Arcy and Zig and Zag, was met with positive reviews but ultimately did not return in 2022.

Dustin shared his feelings about being told to “get stuffed,” stating, “The Den was great when it came back, but it was one of those things where people were enjoying it so much that RTÉ said, ‘no we’re not having that.'” He also mentioned how he enjoyed being back with Zig and Zag and appreciated Ray D’Arcy’s return to television. “It’s good to see Ray [D’Arcy] actually being good at television again. I really miss his chat show. That was great because Saturday night if I had trouble sleeping, five minutes of him and I’d nod off.”

A New Ambition: Running for President

Despite his recent setback, Dustin is looking towards bigger goals. He recently announced his intention to run for president, expressing confidence in his chances. “I think it’s a given. Everyone wants to see me being president,” he said. Dustin believes he would fit well into the role, mentioning that he could easily wear Michael D Higgins’ suits. “He can just leave the wardrobe there and I can just try it on. Then I can do a few poems as Gaeilge.”

He also joked about his potential competitors, stating, “I don’t see anyone else who will beat me. See when I ran it originally, I was too young to be president… I’ve done the plans up… it’ll be a 14-screen cinema, with a bowling alley and I’ll move the zoo into it. The country needs me… I’d put my heart on the line for Ireland. I always did.”

A Partnership with Chadwicks

Dustin recently visited the newly refurbished Sallynoggin branch of Chadwicks, where he was joined by Olympic boxer Jack Marley. This visit was part of Chadwicks’ rebrand and upgrade programme, which started in 2018 and has seen 33 of its 50 branches renovated.

Jack Marley praised the investment in the branch, saying, “It’s great to see the investment that’s gone into the branch, not just in the building, but in making sure it continues to cater to local people in the trades, along with homeowners who have a flair for DIY.”

Dustin added, “You know me, I don’t get out of the coop for nothing, but this place is something else. As a ‘well-feathered’ builder myself, I’d be running fowl if I didn’t let every other trade and DIY legend in the area know what they’re missing.”
