Tragic Truck Collision Claims Life on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
A fatal truck accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, specifically at the Car Park-C section, resulting in the death of an unidentified driver. The incident took place on Tuesday during the early hours, when a moving truck collided with a stationary vehicle, leading to severe damage and tragic consequences.
An eyewitness named Akeem Ade provided details about the event. According to Ade, the collision happened when the driver of the moving truck lost control and crashed into the stationary vehicle. The impact caused significant damage to both trucks, and the driver was trapped in the wreckage before emergency services arrived.
Ade expressed concern over the driver’s condition, stating, “I doubt if he can survive it.” He also mentioned that the driver appeared to have lost control before the crash and that emergency responders were already at the scene.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed the incident. Their spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, shared additional information about the vehicles involved. He identified the two trucks as a DAF truck with the license plate AK 658 XD and a MACK truck with the plate AME 58 XC.
According to Akinbiyi, the driver of the DAF truck, which was carrying interlock bricks, attempted to make a turn at Car Park-C but broke down in the process. The driver of the MACK truck, which was loaded with beer, reportedly hit the stationary truck due to excessive speed and loss of control.
Both drivers were involved in the accident, but one of them did not survive. The body of the deceased was transported to the Idera Morgue in Sagamu for further procedures. The road was temporarily closed to a single lane to clear the debris, and the injured driver was removed from the wreckage and taken to the morgue by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The accident vehicles were towed by the Redeemed Police Station for further investigation. This incident highlights the ongoing safety concerns on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, particularly at the Car Park-C junction.
This is not the first time this location has been the site of a serious accident. On April 18, a similar crash occurred at the same spot when a high-speed Mazda bus rammed into a turning truck. That incident resulted in two fatalities and two severe injuries.
These recurring incidents underscore the need for improved road safety measures, better traffic management, and increased awareness among drivers. Authorities continue to monitor such areas to prevent future tragedies and ensure the safety of all road users.
