Dozens of Palestinians Killed by Israeli Fire in Food Line

Escalation of Violence in Gaza Amid Aid Distribution

Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian crowds attempting to access food distribution centers operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a group backed by both the United States and Israel. The incident, which occurred in southern Gaza, resulted in at least 32 deaths and over 100 injuries. This tragic event has raised serious concerns about the safety of civilians seeking aid in an already dire humanitarian crisis.

The GHF, which began its operations in May, is part of an effort by the US and Israel to replace the traditional UN-led aid system in Gaza. Officials from both nations claim that Hamas militants are diverting supplies, but the UN has denied these allegations. Despite this, the GHF claims to have distributed millions of meals to Palestinians in need. However, witnesses report that Israeli military forces have killed hundreds of people while they were trying to access food or water.

Location and Security Measures

The GHF operates four aid distribution sites located in areas under military control. These locations are guarded by private military contractors rather than direct Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) personnel. According to the IDF, troops only use warning shots when crowds get too close to their positions. However, the GHF has stated that there were no incidents at or near its sites and has repeatedly warned individuals not to travel to the locations during nighttime or early morning hours.

The deadliest attacks occurred in the Teina area, approximately 3 kilometers from a GHF aid center near Khan Younis. Witnesses described large groups of people, mostly young men, gathering in the area. Israeli troops initially fired warning shots before opening live fire. One witness reported that the military used machine guns mounted on tanks and drones. The shooting reportedly took place between 5 am and 6 am.

Accounts from Survivors and Victims

Another witness described the chaos as people rushed toward the aid center once it opened. “Is this food or death? Why? They don’t talk with us, they only shoot us,” she said, holding up her empty bag. The Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis received 25 bodies following the attack, while seven others, including a woman, were killed in the Shakoush area near another GHF hub in Rafah. The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed the casualties.

Dr. Mohamed Saker, head of the nursing department at Nasser Hospital, said the facility treated 70 wounded individuals, many of whom were shot in the head and chest. He described the situation as “difficult and tragic,” noting that the hospital lacks essential medical supplies. Some patients, including a child, were treated on the floor, with one boy standing patiently holding a blood bag for someone on a stretcher.

Ongoing Conflict and Ceasefire Talks

In addition to the violence at the aid centers, 16 more people were killed in separate IDF strikes yesterday. The conflict continues to escalate despite ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Qatar. International mediators have indicated that no significant breakthroughs have been made in the talks.

As the humanitarian crisis deepens, the situation in Gaza remains critical. The use of force against civilians seeking aid has sparked international outrage and raised urgent questions about the safety and effectiveness of alternative aid distribution systems. With no resolution in sight, the suffering of the Palestinian population shows no signs of abating.
