A one-month-old baby boy who was abandoned in the cold outside a home in Makeni area was miraculously rescued, thanks to the persistent barking of a dog.
The heroic canine, owned by a Lebanese national identified as Hamze Fouad, alerted its owner to the distressing scene around 8.30 pm.
How dog alerted owner about baby
Nkani reports that the dog’s unusual and relentless barking prompted Fouad to step out of the house and investigate.
He told the police that he found the dog barking near the gate, and when he opened it, he heard a baby crying.
“I was shocked to find a baby boy wrapped in a blanket, lying alone just outside the gate,” Fouad recounted.
He immediately contacted the police, who responded swiftly by taking custody of the infant and rushing him to the University Teaching Hospital for medical observation.
Where was the rescued baby taken?
Fortunately, the baby was found to be in stable condition and has since been placed in a safe home under the care of the Department of Social Welfare.
Police confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to assist with any information that could help identify the child’s mother or guardian.
Authorities have since launched an investigation, treating the case as one of child desertion.
“The safety of the child is our top priority, and we commend Mr. Fouad and his dog for their quick response,” spokesperson Hamoonga said.
As investigations continue, the baby remains under professional care and owes his safety, in no small part, to the loyalty and instincts of man’s best friend.

Philippa Anisha Shamputa:
“If you are God’s chosen child, no matter the situation, He will always find a way. This child has a bright future ahead that God can’t let go of.”
