Dixie Highway Reopens After Hazardous Chemical Spill Reported in Fairfield

A portion of Dixie Highway has reopened in both directions in Fairfield, Ohio, after a “hazardous” chemical spill was reported by city police.

Fairfield police closed the highway, also known as Ohio Highway 4, in both directions between Ross Road and Seward Road due to the spill just before 5 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the department. The post was updated over an hour later, saying it has now reopened.

It is unclear what kind of chemical spilled, where it spilled from, what caused it and whether it’s already been cleaned up. Police said in the original post that emergency and hazmat crews were on scene to contain the spill.
