Papua New Guinea – A Kenyan traveller is melting hearts and uniting cultures over 13,000 kilometres from home.
Diana Daisy-Gau, a solo explorer passionate about Indigenous communities, has become a household name in Papua New Guinea (PNG), and she’s making Kenya beam with pride.
How many countries has Diana Daisy visited?
On June 2, the YouTube sensation crossed into the host country from Indonesia, marking her 16th country visited.
But unlike most tourists, her mission is more than sightseeing; it’s cultural immersion and storytelling.
In just two weeks, Diana has captured the imagination of an entire nation, from the coastal towns to the misty highlands, markets and households across PNG.
Her documentary work on indigenous tribes has not only drawn admiration but ignited calls for her to be named an official Goodwill Ambassador.
“She is truly a hero,” said Francis Kumo, a PNG local commenting online. “She is promoting PNG, its people, and the diversity of cultures.”
What endears Diana Daisy to hosts
Her visits to various tribal regions have been met with extraordinary warmth. In every village, she is received with singing, dancing, and enthusiastic handshakes.
Her willingness to embrace local traditions, including fearlessly enjoying traditional dishes like cassowary meat, has endeared her to thousands.
“Girl, you’re adapting well,” Janet Petrus wrote on Facebook. “The way you eat the huge meat. I just love you. It’s cassowary meat. Enjoy!”
Her presence is so beloved that some locals are planning her future in PNG.
“Come to Eastern Highlands,” said Deboma Bomai, “people are already planning your marriage ceremony with your new husband!”
Kenyans proud of Diana Daisy-Gau’s exploits
Her social media clips showcasing traditional dances, attire, and day-to-day life among tribes have gone viral, not only in PNG but also across Africa and beyond.
From Nairobi to Port Moresby, Diana Daisy-Gau is not just a traveller.
She is a bridge between continents, a living example of the beauty of global connection and mutual appreciation.
And as Papua New Guinea flirts with the idea of keeping her for good, Kenya watches proudly as one of its daughters leaves a trail of unity, laughter, and cultural respect across the Pacific.
Diana Daisy stranded in Laos
In an earlier incident this year, Diana Daisy was frustrated during a visit to Laos, Southeast Asia, when immigration officials took her passport, camera and belongings.
She lamented that they demanded KSh 259,000, harsh treatment that left her feeling targeted for being African, given that she had the required funds.
Fans flocked to the comment section to sympathise and share their thoughts, with many highlighting the challenges faced by African passport holders abroad.
