I need to express my gratitude to everyone for coming forward,” Buzaid said when he received the nomination. “Five months ago, many of us had no concept that we would be running for mayor. We began with almost nothing and have now become a fully functional team.
Buzaid currently heads a Republican slate aiming to recover fromlosses it experienced in the 2023city election, aiming to regainthe mayor’s officealong with positions on the City Council, Board of Education, and Zoning Commission, which are currently held by Democrats, as well as reclaim other city hall roles.
“Let me explain why we’re going to emerge victorious. We’re here because we have faith in our determination, and that’s what will be needed to secure the win,” Buzaid stated.

He commended the other candidates who were awarded the Republican Town Committee’s nominations for different elected positions.
“We are surrounded by talented individuals. We have accomplished people, highly experienced professionals. They are committed and here for the correct reasons. They are here for Danbury. There are no individuals here aiming to advance their careers,” Buzaid stated.
Occasionally, he made subtle criticisms of his Democratic rival, current Mayor Roberto Alves.
Photos, photo opportunities—those are nice. Even a large bank account is nice, but it doesn’t ensure victory. What ensures a win is what happens here,” Buzaid said, pointing to the center of his chest. “The quality of the people, their qualifications, their commitment. I know many individuals on the other side who are wonderful people. However, they lack this, they don’t believe in it. That’s why we will win. That’s what it takes.
Buzaid gave a short overview of his campaign’s main points.
The concept behind our campaign was ‘Buzaid is best, best for Danbury. B, E, S, T: business, education, safety, transportation,’ he stated, vowing to ‘guide the city back to where it should be.’
Prior to the Republicans suffering a loss two years back, the party had maintained control of the mayor’s position for over twenty years. The Republican Party also possessed a supermajority on the City Council, and had majorities on the Board of Education and the Zoning Commission as well.
Everything changed beginning with the top of the ballot: Alves beat the current officeholderGOP mayor Dean EspositoIn a closely contested and intense competition, the candidate defeated Esposito by 272 votes, as stated in the results released by the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s office.
In the same election, Democrats took over control of the council, Board of Education, and Zoning Commission, establishing their own supermajority on the council.
Buzaid, the owner of Buzaid Music Company and Maxx Gun and Pawn, is currently in his third straight term on the council. He has previously held several terms on the council during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
“Emile is precisely the individual our city needs to guide it toward prosperity and an improved standard of living. The Buzaid administration will work in the best interest of every Danbury resident and steer the city toward more intelligent development,” stated Mark Cammisa, a member of the RTC.
